The Cause

The Felix Project tackles both food waste and food poverty in London by rescuing surplus food from the food industry that would normally go to landfill and redistributing it to the hundreds of food banks, charities, primary schools and holiday programmes they have partnered with.

The charity reported in 2023 that a whopping 9.5 million tonnes of food is wasted annually in the UK despite the growing number of people who are struggling to feed themselves and their families.

The situation had become so dire for some households that they were forced to choose between feeding themselves and heating their homes in the winter months.

Some social housing tenants were so desperate, they asked for their gas supply to be switched off so that they were not tempted to use their boilers or their hobs.

In other cases, grown women were living off baby formula because they could not afford fresh food to feed themselves and their children.

Food security is basic human right.

We are delighted to have been able to support The Felix Project in 2023, who supplied the equivalent of 32 million meals to 1,119 community organisations and over 170 schools across London that year. 50% of that aid supported people living in the top five most deprived areas in London.

This fantastic organisation has found a way to reach the most vulnerable while at the same time preventing valuable produce from going to waste. To find out how you can contribute, visit The Felix Project – London Charity Fighting Hunger and Food Waste
