Today, Taawon plays an instrumental role in providing food, clothing, medical care, psychological support, education and vocational training until the age of 18 for Gaza’s children who have lost their families.
Taawon (Welfare Association) was established in Geneva in 1983 by a group of Palestinian business leaders and intellectuals with the mission of empowering Palestinian individuals and civil society institutions both socially and economically, in addition to strengthening Palestinian identity and the values of freedom and democracy.
For the last 15 years, Taawon has been working with civil society organisations on the ground to care for Gaza’s orphans. Nearly half of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents are children and since October 2023, the ongoing war has led to a growing number of orphans, presenting an incredibly challenging future for these young lives.
Today, Taawon plays an instrumental role in providing food, clothing, medical care, psychological support, education and vocational training until the age of 18 for Gaza’s children who have lost their families.
CIF has sponsored 12 children in Taawon’s orphan programme this year, providing them with stability and protection in a desperately unpredictable environment, and the opportunity for a future living with independence and dignity.
Mohammed lost his father and suffered severe injuries from the bombing of his home in Gaza. He has been taken under the wing of Taawon’s Noor programme and his smile returned when he received new clothes: ‘When I wore the new clothes, I felt like there’s someone out there who still cares.’
