Spotlight on Africa

The Cause

Spotlight on Africa embarked on their first mission in 2006 with the establishment of a primary school in Mbale, Uganda. Since then, they have expanded their community projects to provide villages in the area with clean drinking water, establish essential health and children’s education services and develop training schools for adults.

The Project

We are proud to have partnered with Spotlight on Africa in June 2024 to help fund their Orphans and Vulnerable Children Programme. The problem of orphans in Uganda is a significant issue, largely due to civil strife, HIV/AIDS and other medical conditions that are prevalent in the poorest of communities which have led to high adult mortality rates.

For just £100 per child per year, the programme provides food, clothing, dormitories and education for orphans. With Spotlight’s support, orphans are cared for and guaranteed primary education and emotional support. They are also successfully integrated into the rest of the community. This is an important aspect of Spotlight’s programme which ensures that there is no stigma felt by the orphans who are brought into the Spotlight Family.

Meet Innocent

Abandoned by his parents at 14, Innocent took on the role of caregiver for his 5 siblings, supporting them through school. He was forced to work as a child labourer for illegal brewers to make money to survive.

Today, Innocent is a qualified teacher and Scout leader at Musoto Christian School, giving back to the community that shaped him and standing as a prime example to other young children that there is hope of escaping child poverty.

Leading the MCS Scout group to incredible achievements, coming 2nd in a national competition held in Entebbe, Innocent’s story is one of inspiration and impact, and the sense of self-worth created by his accomplishments is both priceless and essential for building sustainable futures.

Our Impact

CIF’s donation will help another 150 children like Innocent, providing them with 12 months of security, learning and inspiration to become the adults they aspire to be.
