Vision Restoration: Cataract Surgeries
Delivering mobile surgical intervention clinics alongside IMET2000 to provide free, sight-restoring cataract surgeries for more than 240 people across rural Uganda
The Reality on the Ground
For hundreds of individuals living in impoverished, rural regions of Uganda, preventable blindness from cataracts is a devastating reality. Without access to specialized ophthalmic medical care, conditions that are easily treatable elsewhere end up isolating individuals from their communities, cutting them off from livelihoods, and forcing them into absolute dependency.
- • Economic Independence: Restoring the physical ability for adults to return to farming, work, and community life.
- • Generational Relief: Freeing young children from full-time caregiving duties so they can return to primary schools.
Our Solution: Mobile Ophthalmic Interventions
We believe that access to critical healthcare is a fundamental human right. By partnering with IMET 2000 (International Medical Education Trust), we funded mobile surgical clinics that travel directly into underserved areas. This project investment provides the direct funding, specialized medical equipment, and clinical resources required for local ophthalmic teams to perform life-changing, sight-restoring cataract operations entirely free of charge.
Progress and Moving Forward
The local medical teams and facilitators we collaborate with on the ground have successfully executed these mobile surgical missions across highly isolated sectors. Moving forward, the foundation's project investments remain strictly dedicated to expanding regional medical equipment capabilities and empowering trusted local clinicians to eliminate preventable blindness.
