A Lifeline in a National Crisis

In Lesotho, the reality for women and girls is stark: an estimated 85% of women experience gender-based violence in their lifetime. For survivors seeking safety, escaping an abusive environment is only the first step. True recovery requires a space where healing meets opportunity - not just for the mothers, but for their children as well. At the Chestertons International Foundation, we recognize that true healing is holistic. Through our $13,365 partnership, we have funded the construction and development of a specialized Early Childhood Development Centre classroom inside the newly established Boiketlong Multipurpose Centre.

Breaking the Cycle: How the ECDC Works

  • Safe Childhoods: While mothers focus on their legal, medical, and emotional recovery, their children are safe, protected, and learning in a specialized trauma-informed environment.
  • Economic Freedom: Knowing their children are receiving top-tier Early Childhood Care allows mothers the physical and mental freedom to attend the centre's vocational training workshops without worry.
  • Intergenerational Healing: By supporting the youngest victims of family crises, we help break the generational cycle of trauma and violence right from the start.

A Historic Royal Launch

On November 24, 2025 - coinciding with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the global 16 Days of Activism - the centre officially opened its doors. The historic ceremony in Maseru was graced by the presence of Their Majesties King Letsie III and Queen 'Masenate Mohato Seeiso, alongside top government officials, signaling a unified national commitment to safety, justice, and dignity. In her keynote address, Her Majesty Queen 'Masenate described the centre as a vital lifeline and a national promise of active compassion.

Integrated Survivor Services

  • Protection: A secure environment providing safe halfway housing and emergency sanctuary.
  • Integrated Care: On-site healthcare, trauma counseling, and legal aid all under one roof.
  • Economic Empowerment: Vocational training in arts, crafts, and sustainable agriculture within the centre's dedicated greenhouses and crop plots, guiding women toward complete financial independence.
  • Reintegration: Structured support to help survivors safely reunite and thrive within their wider communities.
